2012 Ssamzie Sound Festival Auditions : Electro Rock Edition

There’s no doubt electro rock is the new big thing around Hongdae. A number of bands have shown up to follow the path set out by the likes of The Koxx and Glen Check, and of course many could be found auditioning for a chance to play the 2012 Ssamzie Sound Festival as Hidden Masters. This concludes our series of posts on the SSF auditions, so if you haven’t voted yet now’s the time to do so.

 

Litter


The foundation for Litter was laid in 2009, but it wasn’t until 2011 that the band’s current line-up settled. They base their electronic synth rock around an analog synth. Litter began performing in June this year.

Gravity


With roots in Hongdae’s punk and hardcore scene, electronic rock band Gravity formed in September 2011. The band’s first demo should be released soon. Facebook.

Hologram Film


Four member electro rock band Hologram Film formed in May 2011. They became the first Support Your Music act of 2012 after which they released EP Fresh Light. Hologram Film was one of six bands in the final for this year’s Sangsang Madang Band Incubating. Facebook. Twitter.

Poly


With a dedicated DJ, six member band Poly, short for “Parallelism Of Leaping Yourselves”, formed in June last year. The band spices up their electro rock sound with a bit of trance and a touch of screamo. Poly made it to the Asia Beat 2011 Korea final and are currently working on an EP. Facebook.

Space Papa


Five member band Space Papa draw inspiration from bands such as Justice, Daft Punk, Hot Chip and Phoenix. They’ve been playing together since July last year and hope to record an album if a good opportunity opens up. Facebook. Twitter.

WHOwho


The four member band WHOwho offer a mix of disco, psychodelic and blues rock. They’ve been active around Hongdae since spring this year with their first demo release in June. Facebook. Twitter.

Sasquatch


Synth rock act Sasquatch auditioned as a duo with memberes from Monkeyz and Fantastic Drugstore acting as session musicians. The band formed in 2012 and they had their first show end of August. Facebook. Twitter. YouTube.

Men Ne Maggiy


Using a laptop as her only instrument, Men Ne Maggiy started making music in 2010. She’s released a couple of singles and an EP since. Men Ne Maggiy refers to her sound as “minimal spectacle modern grunge” and has been influenced by Buena Vista Social Club and Han Young Ae. Facebook. Twitter.
