Korea’s national music chart Gaon published the charts for December this Thursday. Here’s a look at how the local indie music managed during the month.

Gaon Korean Album Chart

Picking up from a slow month in November, Korean indie albums sold better during December. hyukoh‘s 22 got another pressing selling out the week of release–total sales for 2015 now at 3,998 copies. Lucid Fall‘s 7th full-length album sold nearly as much during a couple of weeks, available not just in music stores but also through a home shopping network.

The albums that did appear on the album chart during the month, but didn’t sell enough to qualify for the monthly chart of November (i.e. less than 471 copies) were the following:

The release of Dickpunks‘ new mini-album 29, sparked an interest also in earlier Dickpunks releases. Standing Egg and Bily Acoustie both put out new albums in the beginning of December and each managed to get on the weekly chart twice. Yi Sung Yol and Clazzi‘s joint project Yolhoon had the first EP released mid-month, gaining some interest from CD buyers. Aside from Galaxy Express‘ 4th full-length album, making its 3rd appearance on the weekly album chart during September, all other indie releases charting during December had been released a month prior.

Gaon Korean Digital Chart

Gaon’s digital chart combines the results of Gaon’s download, streaming and background music charts. Few indie songs make the joint chart, but all new songs to enter any of the related charts are added to Indieful ROK’s Gaon Digital 2015 YouTube playlist.

As Oh Hyuk‘s single for tvN hit drama Reply 1988 (응답하라 1988) has been hovering near the top of Gaon’s Korean digital chart during December, hyukoh’s “위잉위잉” has been moving around the bottom of the chart with “와리가리” disappearing after half a year.

Only the Korean indie songs that made the monthly chart appeared on the weekly digital chart during the month of December.

Gaon Korean Download Chart

The Korean download chart of December is looking the same as the digital chart.

In addition to the songs above, also Standing Egg’s “Miss You” appeared on Gaon’s weekly Korean download chart during December.

Gaon Korean Streaming Chart

While Psy kept Oh Hyuk out of the top position on both the digital and download chart, the positions are reversed on Gaon’s Korean streaming chart for December.

Only the Korean indie songs that made the monthly chart appeared on the weekly streaming chart during the month of December.

Gaon BGM Chart

Although not nearly as full of Korean indie songs as it was earlier in the year, December at least offered twice as many indie songs on the chart as the two preceding months. Unlike the other digital charts, the BGM chart does not separate foreign and Korean entries.

Only the Korean indie songs that made the monthly chart appeared on the weekly BGM chart during the month of December.

Gaon Mobile Chart

Although starting 2015 strong with plenty of Korean indie music on Gaon’s mobile charts in January, December saw the lowest count of indie songs on the mobile chart of the entire year.

Additionally Acoustic Collabo‘s “응원가” and Sistar‘s Soyou & 10cm‘s Kwon Jeong Yeol‘s duet “어깨” appeared on the weekly mobile chart during December.

Gaon Korean Noraebang Chart

With hyukoh’s “위잉위잉” on the way out from Gaon’s Korean noraebang chart in December, the band’s leader Oh Hyuk has swiftly claimed the top spot for his new drama song.
