Update April 1: Because of a much needed comment Jaurim too have been added to the list above. And doing so I found that I had missed the addition of Autumn Vacation completely!
So the Geeks don’t count then? I can see Jaurim, but I don’t get this. How do you determine what is indie and what isn’t?
Had it been The Geeks I would’ve definitely included them on the list. From what I understand the Geeks that just debuted are more about hip hop – something that is only on very rare occasions covered on this blog.
As for Jaurim, when I cover their releases here it’s usually because of the rock factor rather than from any sense of being “indie”.
I don’t usually spend much time thinking about what is indie and what isn’t – usually just writing about as much as I can find time for about whatever artists interest me personally (the times when I could even attempt to write about everything are long gone and even with the current approach there’s just too much to cover). When I do think about it, the first question that pops up in my head is “Is this the kind of band that would play in Hongdae?”, only after that do I consider sound and management.
That said I did consider adding Jaurim to the list, but giving it an extra thought my reason for beginning to compile this chart to begin with was the surprise factor and given their status I personally was not particularly surprised to see Jaurim on there. Your comment made me rethink this again and since Jaurim are with Soundholic I think I made a wrong decision on this one. Updating right now!
Sorry about the long answer, by the way. Please don’t let that keep you from asking similar questions further on ^^
Oh, and while I was not surprised that Jaurim was on the chart I was surprised to see their songs there at this time, so my own surprise argument didn’t hold up very well anyway. Many thanks for the comment!
You and Me is just now getting the kind of airplay it has so long deserved? Good on them! That song is the only Jaurim song I have ever played hours on end on repeat. It has a wonderfully cryptic vibe.
